Here is a collection of my favourite Mongolian recipes. While we were travelling, I started out eating the meat, mostly lamb. However, after a few days, I decided to order the vegetarian meals and I really enjoyed the creativity. Because of the desert land in the areas we visited, fresh vegetables were rare. However, they used tinned vegetables and potatoes. I especially enjoyed the delicious fried (khuushuur) and steamed dumplings.
Our meals were a mixture of local dishes and western dishes, with a local twist. We had spaghetti, grilled lamb, fried chicken, dumplings, salads, and soups. Restaurants managed to cook a huge variety even with the limitations of the ingredients.
Dessert was often fruit or cakes, sometimes packaged ones. And I must say that I really enjoyed the Golden Gobi chocolates including the sea buckthorn flavour.
