In the south of Mauritius island, one can travel to Savanne district. The highlights of the area include the tea plantations, Grand Bassin lake and temple, and the Black River Gorges National Park. A car is definitely necessary to get around as distances between sights are too far to walk or cycle. One of the highlights was tea tasting at the Bois Cheri plantation. Interestingly, the Grand Bassin Lake has some water from the Ganges in India, so it is considered a sacred place. Finally, the views of the Black River Gorge and Alexandra Falls is stunning on a clear day.

Food
My stay in the Savanne region was quite short, and mostly focused on seeing the natural sights. However, one beverage to try in the area is the local tea. I visited the Bois Cheri tea plantation and did a tea tasting. All of the flavours were delicious, and I took quite a few boxes home.
