Whenever I am walking around large cities, I keep an eye our for graffiti and street art. In fact, I think it’s one of my city-walking highlights to see what types there are in different area. Colombia was a great place to find street art, including both Bogotá and Cartagena. The Bogotá Street Art was a mix of graffiti, wall painting and hanging art work in many parts of the city. La Candelaria is famous for its street art, and the Calle Del Embudo is full of wall paintings. Nearby, Chorro de Quevedo plaza is also decorated with many wall paintings. Additionally, surrounding streets have colourful paintings and hanging umbrellas.
Near Parque 93, there were some nature-themed wall paintings, but not very much graffiti. Further south, there were some nice, creative works near La Perseverancia Distrital Marketplace and Museo Nacional de Colombia, and on the way down to Plaza de Bolívar. Unfortunately, there was a lot of tagging graffiti, even on the Iglesia de San Francisco. Walking down the Calle Real was interesting and there were lots of people and things to see. However, I did not feel completely safe and was glad it was daytime and there were police around. Here are some examples of Bogotá Street Art. If you go, see if you can find the same ones!
