This recipe for braised miso tofu is really easy and I made it when I had extra miso paste to use! Also, now instead of using the oven, I often make this in the air fryer. It is quicker and also gives it a nice grilled taste on the top. The tofu is already cooked so it just needs to be warmed through.
Basically, you just make a sauce with miso paste and a few other ingredients. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of the ingredients as you can mix and match. For example, you can see that in this version I did not remember the sesame seeds on top, and I grilled the spring onions instead of saving them until the end.
Ingredients
1 container firm tofu, pressed to remove as much water as possible
1/3 cup miso paste
3 Tbsp rice vinegar
3 Tbsp sugar
5 Tbsp water
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp sesame oil
2 tsp grated ginger
2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
Toasted sesame seeds
1/4 cup of thinly sliced green onions
Instructions
First, cut tofu into rectangular pieces. Next, mix miso, vinegar, sugar, water, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic in a bowl until well-blended. Line a 9X13 inch pan with foil and put a thin layer of the sauce mixture on the bottom. Place the tofu pieces on the sauce. Drizzle remaining sauce on the tofu. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Broil on high at the top of the oven until the tofu starts to brown at the edges, about 15 minutes. Finally, remove from the oven and top with green onions. Serve warm.
