UK- Halloumi Pastries Recipe

Halloumi Pastries

When you need a quick vegetarian starter, this is an easy recipe for halloumi pastries. You can use ready-made puff pastry. Then you just need halloumi and some seasoning, which you roll up in the pastry. For this time, I made them in the oven. However, you can also cook, and reheat them, in an aur fryer. These are delicious on their own or with a dipping sauce of your choice. I think they could go well with a spicy sauce. Also, feel free to experiment with the seasoning and toppings based on your taste. If Halloumi is too salty for you, then mozzarella can also work, though it does melt more than the halloumi, so you may need to seal the ends of the pastry.

Ingredients

250 grams (9 ounces) ready-rolled puff pastry unrolled
250 grams (9 ounces) halloumi
2 Tbsp Mixed Herbs
1 Tbsp Garlic powder
2 Tbsp white sesame seeds
1 egg, beaten

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180C (350F)

First, cut the puff pastry into 2cm wide strips. Next, cut the halloumi into sticks. Try to get the same number of cheese sticks as the strips. Season the cheese with either Italian herbs or Herbs de Provence, and garlic powder.

Place one cheese stick on each puff pastry strip. Roll up the cheese sticks, trying to cover most of the stick with pastry. Then place them on a baking sheet covered with greaseproof paper.

Brush the puff pastry with a coating of beaten egg. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and crispy. Serve on their own or with a dipping sauce of your choice.
