Although I have classified this recipe for broccoli and chestnuts as a UK recipe, because I created it there, I think it could also be American. We use the same few simple ingredients which go into this dish. During Thanksgiving, I like to try making new dishes for variety instead of the same traditional sides every year. Additionally, some friends are vegan or dairy-intolerant, so I was experimenting with vegan recipes. This recipe for broccoli and chestnuts is very easy, tasty and nutritious with vegetables and protein.
Ingredients
1 big head broccoli
2-3 small garlic cloves
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 package (180g) whole chestnuts
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
First, wash and cut the broccoli into smaller pieces. Second, peel and mince the garlic cloves. Next, heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Then cook the broccoli pieces and garlic for about 8 minutes or until the broccoli starts to change colour to a darker green. Finally, add in the chestnuts and season with salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the ingredients are heated through. Serve hot in a bowl.
